Knowledge Contract Arcana

We study how people and agents can reuse knowledge while keeping its source, scope, evidence, and conditions of use visible. The Knowledge Contract target is 3.0.0-draft.1; the specification and experiments remain in progress. This site will host reviewed rules, papers, and implementation resources as they become ready; see the purpose for what works today and what is planned.

Purpose

Knowledge Contract Arcana is about managing knowledge and its reuse by people and agents: contracts for managing the heritage of human knowledge. The contract is designed so that each piece of knowledge will travel with its source, author, scope and evidence.

It is designed to replace the hand-written skills, rules and prompt files that are kept separately in each agent harness with one unified knowledge contract. The contract is meant to evolve itself (changes admitted only on evidence, versioned, with rollback) and to improve through the community and contributors, so that it stays ahead of any single harness or skill set.

Working today

The public hub at contract.place; the licensing and attribution mechanics (CC BY 4.0 for text, Apache-2.0 for code, NOTICE, ATTRIBUTION.md, CITATION.cff, REUSE compliance, DCO sign-off and a source register with a CI check); the knowledge-contract repository as a public scaffold with rules, governance and tools; two published articles on arcanada.ai (architecture and version 2); a read-only HTTP API at api.contract.place with search, related and fetch routes over the published documents (/v1/search, /v1/related, /v1/fetch; measured live on 2026-10-31); and a search box on this site that calls the search route.

Planned, not built yet

Published specifications and papers in the repository; a sourced corpus of human knowledge on meaning management (no approved corpus entries yet); the unified contract for agent harnesses; the self-evolution loop; community contribution and review; knowledge selection with a provenance receipt for every answer; an MCP server; the read API and the search box on this site are the access routes today.

Open and closed

Whatever knowledge, specifications, papers, schemas and reference code are published here and in the repository is open (see Use and cite). The backend engine that processes, admits and evolves contracts stays closed and proprietary.
